Happy face in the night sky
Dec. 1. In what could be an unlikely moment to witness a rare spectacle in the sky–I was riding the hand-pulled boat to cross to our place (from school) when I noticed a strange apparition in the night sky. I saw a crescent moon lying on its back down with the circular outline very much defined. Little did I know that that was the conjunction of the moon with two of the brightest planets in the universe–Jupiter and Venus whose alignment with the moon formed a happy face in the sky. This sighting is expected to happen again, in 2052, that is. Too long but fairly average an interval by astronomical standards. News of this obviously escaped us as we were enjoying Palawan. But nature really has a way of making its presence felt to us especially when it does a great show. We are always held hostage.
